Beam Calculator V14.3

An update to the Beam Calculator tool. The program will plot the curves for any set of user-selected cross sections. The program will also allow the user to input a design moment and unbraced length and give the lightest sections that are adequate, from the list of user-selected shapes.

You must enable macros in MS Excel for this program to work.

Note: security has been removed, so this file is now user-modifiable if you are sufficiently familiar with Excel programming & scripting.

This tool was originally published as an AISC Steel Solutions Center 'SteelTool'. AISC no longer technically supports and maintains these files. Therefore, it is availale to any user 'unlocked' for those to freely update and modify on their own and post to their own profiles. Additional information - The beam I want to use is a W12X19 (50 KSI), spanning 28'-0", braced @ 9.33' with a uniform load of 0.3K/FT resulting in an Mu=29.4 K-FT.
Based on the curves this should be acceptable.  However, when using the "Determine Optimum Shapes" screen, and entering the data above, the beams selected range from W12X30 all the way up to W12X170.  Not sure what is happening.  Any comments would be appreciated.

There seems to be a problem with the program keeping the same shape you are working on from one screen to the other.  When I look @ only one shape from the graph- C12x20.7, when I go to the "Determine Optimum Shapes" and "View Detailed Design" it goes to a C15X50.  Am I missing something?
